2014-04-09 "All computers are ours."

Today, the support of Windows XP is finished.

I am wondering why not only Microsoft Co, but also technical news sites are announcing the risk of keeping using XP with change color.

Of course, I know well that some money flow in the news site. But I don't know who tries to spend money for the purpose.

- SIer and maintenances Co. that works for a new OS install.

- PC makers that want to sell a new PC.

- Security soft warehouse.

and so on.

-----

For me, I think that this is rare business change.

The catchy slogan is,

"We keep saving your company securities with Windows XP for more than ten years"

But I could never watch such advertisement, so they are not confident in themselves.

If any security accident happens, the company is going to be bankruptcy.

-----

Anyway, I am afraid that I am presumptuous to tell about the Windows.

I am one of the engineers who thought that GUI based computers never run rampant.

"CUI" is only interface for computers.

And there were really a lot of engineers who told everyone to the same messages.

You could find the name with search engine easily.

However they are now acting all high and mighty for technical field, I never pick their names up in fear for alleged defamer

"All computers are ours."

"Never touch them except for engineers"

In the old day, many engineers thought like that.

2015-04-09 "they don't want to hear another talk, but they want to make another hear their talk."

For a long time, I have thought that why people aim to success.

There are several types of success in the world.

In many cases, the successes are appeared as a comparable key index, for example, career, money and lover of heterosexual and homogeneous.

But I cannot think that many people who aim to success, make their efforts for these key index only.

-----

Yesterday, I came to me in a flash that

"they don't want to hear another talk, but they want to make another hear their talk."

I thought that they have a desire including the contradiction.

-----

In fact, it is very hard for me to have a lecture from another.

Because I don't hope that.

At the time, I make me accept that the person may have something that I don't know, and, that might be useful for me.

For example, the person might have something meaningful, my boss, world-wide researcher, or famous writer.

I believe the possibility "I might get something from this person" and put up with the lecture.

(To be continued)

2016-04-09 who says that ?

At the conference where a lot of executives attend,

I think, the executive who complains

"Why does young people speak their opinions freely and vigorous?"

is really idiot.

-----

Though they always deny younger's comments anywhere anytime,

who says that ?

Why do you think that the youngers express their opinions easily?

It is natural that they keep silent.

-----

I became to the age to worry about it.

However, I didn't become to an executive.

2017-04-09 "I am envious"

When I was a high-school student, I was asked by neighbors and I taught the boy.

He had no motivation to study, and obviously he dislike studying.

When I asked him "What do you want to be in the future?", He said,

"Ordinary salaried worker"

-----

I remember

"Oh, this child believes that "ordinary salaried workers" have existed."

I also feel sorry for him.

-----

By the way, who taught him (and many younger) about "ordinary salaried workers" on earth ?

"Ordinary salaried workers" is, I think, "we can eat all my life, just doing something from the top with no effort"

-----

"I am envious"

If there is such a occupation, I would like to change job even now.

2018-04-09 So I feel that that the values of our engineer might go down relatively.(That might be true)

In those days, I am thinking how to realize a mail and web server for the neighborhood association(NA).

Twenty years ago, "Making a server" needed considerable cost, money and human resources.

However, we can use an cloud server by several hundred yen per a month.

We can push a Internet provider on several messy groundworks like security measures

In my case, I use the cloud server to manage my homepage, and it is very helpful.

-----

To begin with, I will use a cloud server for the NA's IT services, however, now I come to think

"Can I use a "Raspberry PI" as the server?"

(This is an opposite approach against the cloud server).

I think that it is enough to manage the IT service to the NA.

The Raspberry PIs are working well for security systems of my home and wife's country house .

They have not gone them down, yet.

-----

Days of old, the servers makers were Sun, HP ad the prices were more than multi-million yen.

However, we can get a "Raspberry PI" by even 5000 yen from Amazon.com

So I feel that that the values of our engineer might go down relatively.(That might be true)

However, What we should do (server construction and management) is difficult and messy in their way.

-----

In fact,

"there are a pile of people who cannot use a PC and a smart-phone in the NA."

The annoying thing is that the following world is not coming,

"When their prices are going down, they come to have user friendly interfaces"

2019-04-09 In short, I think these are examples that "pleasure due to desire" can not be achieved without a "moderate" constraint.

When I was looking at the anime "High Score Girl", I remembered an optional tour of the conference I participated in before.

Academic meetings are usually held for about a week.

Around the middle of the period, events such as dinner parties are included (the entry fee is often included in the dues).

Formerly at a conference in the United States, I participated in the event of

""Lending the entire amusement center"

It was an event that we could play all the game consoles of the amusement center freely for free, however, I remember that I was not bored.

This may be because I have no "game attributes", but other attendees also seemed to be missing

-----

Before I have heard that story that an popular artists "bought a whole toy store and gave it to his son"

After that, the child seems to be out of play with toys.

-----

When I was a student, high-spec PCs were competing at the seminar laboratory.

At that time, personal computers were expensive, so we had to share them and used by all seminar students and replace the user for a fixed time (for example 2 hours). Or I had to occupy in the middle of the night.

So, I did a part-time job like crazy every day, and bought a laptop computer that weighs 9 kg, which costs 860,000 yen. I was carrying it on a motorcycle every day.

At that time, it was the only way to occupy computer resources.

However, now, the 5,000 yen portable computer (eg, Raspberry Pi) has more performance than the computing power of the university computing center at that time.

n this way, we lost the motivation to compete for computer resources.

-----

In short, I think these are examples that "pleasure due to desire" can not be achieved without a "moderate" constraint.

2020-04-09 "That's working well, Don't mind your own business !"

I watched an animation whose title is "ReLIFE" on Amazon PRIME.

It was a good anime.

Again, I said it was a very good anime.

-----

Here, let's dig the animation base on my science brain in a fun.

- What is the business model of the “ReLIFE Institute”?

Huge drug development costs, Monitoring period of the monitoring target, Falsification of recording media, Erasing the memories of the people involved after the experiment,

When we apply the labor cost of a certain laboratory, I think that the experiment cost for one subject is at least 40 million yen per year and 200 million yen at the maximum.

What is the cost-effectiveness?

The effect obtained is too small against the effect of the experiment.

- Is the after-effect of medicine OK?

If aging and anti-aging processes are performed overnight, the load on brain cells as well as body cells will be enormous.

Well, even if the subject knows the risks well, manipulating memory for humans who are environmental factors (students around subjects) can be a humanitarian problem, and moreover, a significant violation of human rights.

-----

I talk this story to junior daughter. She disgrunted me

"That's working well, Mind your own business !"

Well, I think "she is right".

2021-04-09 Regardless of what I looked like on the outside, I was in fact a "loser","introvert" or "gloomy" and schools were "hell itself" for me.

(Continuation from yesterday)

Recently, I realized that there is a certain explanation for this contradictory behavior in my childhood.

When I was a child, my characters were essentially "negative" -- or rather, "dark".

I had a habit of not seeing things as they appear on the surface, but trying to find the "other side" of them, and interpreting them in a "malicious" way.

(This is obvious if you read my columns and blogs, now)

The children's "winners" were what we now call "extrovert" or "lively", had many friends, didn't question things, and listened to adults.

(I know now that they were "childish.")

The opposing "losers" were what we now call "introvert" or "gloomy" as they were called then.

Even back then, I was afraid of being labeled as "gloomy" by those around me.

Naturally, being "gloomy" also meant being ostracized (what we now call "bullied").

For children who are controlled within the unit of a class, being left out means death in school life.

Basically, in the extraterritoriality (lawlessness) of "school," where the concept of law (criminal punishment) does not apply, children who are labeled as "dark-skinned" have no way to protect themselves.

Regardless of what I looked like on the outside, I was in fact a "loser","introvert" or "gloomy" and schools were "hell itself" for me.

-----

In such an environment, what I happened to carry with me was a "weapon" called "piano".

Playing the piano made me popular, mostly with girls.

It was already the ultimate weapon, no questions asked.

If you've ever taken piano lessons, you know that if you play the piano every day for two to three years, you can easily learn to play by ear by yourself.

In addition, you will be able to play anime theme songs, popular songs, etc. on the piano using both hands -- not the main melody, but the performance.

With this, there is no way you won't be popular.

The piano I was playing was always surrounded by several girls.

------

"Ebata... I've always thought you were the worst unpleasant person, however you are still bragging it again"

You might be thinking.

I think so too.

But, you know, I've never told this story to anyone else.

I have never done this to my wife or my daughter.

Do you think it's possible that I'm not telling you about this delicious boast?

No, no. It's not possible.

There is one thing that comes to mind for me right now.

Even I couldn't believe it, but maybe I was "desperate".

The "loser", "introvert" or "gloomy" had to survive in the "hell" of school.

Though I am pointing out the inadequacies of the school system, criticizing teachers for their lack of knowledge, and worrying about children's narrow view, I was just afraid of bullies and thinking of ways to escape from them, and was

"An ordinary child"

That's why I couldn't let go of my weapon of choice, the piano, which I hated to death -- until I was in the eighth grade.

I see. There is no way I can talk about such a shameful thing. It's no wonder I've unconsciously sealed it away.

(To be continued)

2022-04-09 If you disclose your ideas to the organization in an unfinished state and at an inappropriate time, 'your idea will surely be crushed' -- logistically.

"Why is Ebata still coding?" I think there are many people who think that.

For the past few years, I have had the program created by an outsourcer.

I've had all the items delivered to me, including the source code, however, I came to realize

"I have not been able to reuse (modify) their source code at all"

-----

To be clear, "programs written by others" are, to put it bluntly, "spellbinding.

Not only programming languages that I am not familiar with, but also even programming languages that I am familiar with, are not

- Libraries are different,

- Program development environments are different,

- Versions (specifications) of the programming language are differnt,

In, addition, the crucial thing is that

- Coding approaches (philosophy) are different.

This point is hopelessly "spellbinding".

Once, my mentor, "Erukan" said,

"Reading someone else's program is like looking into someone else's head. it's offensive and even vomit-inducing"

I think that this is a great quote.

-----

Pain-free programming is programming done by myself alone from scratch.

However, this is a 'luxury' of such programming, given the speed of digital services these days.

I also have to admit that it is 'unproductive'.

If the programming is "luxury" and "unproductive", where can I get resources from?

The only thing I can use is "weekends" and "sleeping time".

-----

In the past, I could usually talk about the programming on the 'weekends' and on less sleep.

These days, it seems to be a 'compliance issue' to publicly state such a thing in the workplace, etc.

And I agree with this opinion.

This kind of talk is, after all, "power harassment," and this kind of bragging is infuriating to listen to.

So, from now on, I think it will become the norm that 'the work I want to do (programs I want to try, etc.) will be prepared "under the table".

-----

By the way, this "under the table" is not limited to programming. This goes for work in general.

I've always said.

"The work you want to do, do it alone, without making it public"

"Keep my eyes open for any opportunity to make it public"

These are important.

If you disclose your ideas to the organization in an unfinished state and at an inappropriate time, 'your idea will surely be crushed' -- logistically.

It is no exaggeration to say that this is an "axiom of organization".

For example, I have a service/product that I kept my idea hidden for three years, and after two years of discreetly disclosing it little by little, I finally got it to be recognized within the organization.

Now let's return to the main subject

-----

Why is Ebata still coding?" A lot can be said about this, but in a nutshell

"Because, it is easy"

2023-04-09 "Because my past helped me"

For the past week or so, I have been working on a means of obtaining real-time information related to Yokohama City Transportation Bureau buses and a viewer that uses this information.

Yesterday in one day, I replaced the code of the infrastructure, uploaded it to AWS, TLS support, and finally succeeded in making it a server.

But even I was surprised, as I did not expect this to be completed in just one day(In most cases, the estimated cost will be 3 to 10 times the estimated cost until completion).

How was this miracle possible?

"Because my past helped me"

-----

I, in May 2020, replaced my website platform with WordPress.

And there I have been writing notes all over the place, ignoring genres, and publishing them in an uncontrolled manner -- as I'm sure you are well aware.

Of course, the notes are 'only for me to know', and all the prerequisites, construction environment, and directories to be specified are left undocumented.

I honestly think, 'If someone else other than me reads it, they won't understand it at all.

But only I, who have been writing, 'get it'.

This is pretty important.

-----

If it is a memo like this, it doesn't needs to be published on a blog.

However, "blogging" prevents 'misplacing'.

When I centralize my notes in WordPress, no matter where I am (office, parents' house, university, etc.), I can find my past notes with a single keyword shot.

And WordPress is a great way to display code nicely and paste information. It is also easy to add later.

Once I get used to this, making memos is just plain stupid.

-----

Of course, some of the information concerns my personal life, but I keep such information private.

WordPress, however, is not so trustworthy with this "private" feature.

So, today I found a serious security issue and was in a big hurry to deal with it (it took 4 hours of my day. It has not been completed yet).

-----

When I don't know something, I search on my blog rather than Google.

At a fairly high rate, my blog answers my questions.

I myself am relatively unconcerned about "information dissemination" and use blogs from the perspective of "getting help from the past me.

I recommend WordPress as a tool for this purpose.

Well, I only know sticky html and Wordpress as blogging platforms, so I have no way to compare them.

2024-04-09 "If they adopted this hypothesis, mankind would have been forced to abandon the idea of having atomic bombs."

Last weekend, my family and I saw the movie "Oppenheimer."

It was a little different from what I had expected.

I was expecting a "project management" or "technology" talk, so the politics (post-war red hunts) were a bit heavy.

Well, let's put that aside.

I know much about the Manhattan Project from reading this book and the NHK Special, but I still have questions.

The Trinity test was successful the first time.

Technology experiments usually fail at first. A good example would be "rocket experiments.

It is not an old story of how many rockets humanity has failed to launch in the past, but an ongoing story.

Of course, this mission requires tremendous money and time, and that failure was unacceptable.?Even so, Still, any experiment is doomed to fail.

It is a little hard to believe that the device (bomb) that detonates the atomic bomb, called the "detonation lens," worked the first time.

Furthermore, in the case of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it would have been even more difficult.

Controlling the timing of the detonation of the detonation lens of an atomic bomb thrown up into the air (I checked and found that it requires nanosecond precision) would have required unimaginably tricky technology.

If you expect the movie "Oppenheimer" to be about that kind of "technology," you will be disappointed.

They can't get seven Academy Awards just for that kind of technology.

-----

What shocked me about the movie was that there was a hypothesis that the explosion of the atomic bomb would ignite the atmosphere and burn up the entire earth and that they tested this hypothesis (this does not seem to be fiction).

I had no idea about this hypothesis.

"If they adopted this hypothesis, mankind would have been forced to abandon the idea of having atomic bombs."

When I think about it, I also think, 'That was a shame.

However, when asked if a "world without atomic bombs" would have been "a better world than the one we live in now," I can only answer, "I don't know.

-----

Another thing, which I think is appropriate in light of the knowledge of the time, is that the characters do not seem to fear being "exposed to the atomic bomb.

Well, we learned about the "damages of exposure" to the atomic bombing much later, so in that sense, I think the film is an accurate reflection of its time.
