2021-02-01 Now -- do we really need "strong leadership" for something like this? Are we really so stupid? [長年日記]

"Politicians with strong leadership skills are in demand"

I don't know if this is true or false, but at least I'm not 'asking for it'.

Anyone who has studied modern history will immediately understand what kind of disasters such a man has brought about.

Rudolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Nicolae Ceauescu

Some people may say, "Dictatorship is not the same as strong leadership.

I also believe that it is desirable for leaders to be strong in neighborhood associations, student councils, and private businesses.

However, a "politician" is an entity that can exercise power by being entrusted by the people or by being supported by a violent apparatus.

The combination of "strong leadership" and "politicians" is not the same as normal leadership.

-----

The "economic measures" for the new corona disaster are difficult, but the "infection control measures" have become much clearer.

I think this is being proven by the results of the second emergency declaration.

Don't talk to people, don't meet people, don't eat with people - all the things they've been told were right.

They were right, so we'll do the right thing.

Go to a restaurant and save Japan's restaurant industry. However, go alone. And eat in silence.

If you eat while looking at your phone, the meal is enjoyable in its own way.

My diary is the best place in the world to learn about "eating alone". Please refer to it.

Now -- do we really need "strong leadership" for something like this? Are we really so stupid?

(There are politicians and bureaucrats who are that stupid. I'm forgetful, so I'll make a list and publish it later. I'll keep updating and publishing it as new fools appear)

-----

What is required of the government is ultra-precise control of the two handles, "economic measures" and "infection control.

This kind of ultra-precise control is based on the principle of "on-the-spot" and "prediction".

Control is -- whether classical control, modern control, PID, fuzzy, neuro, etc.

- "On-the-spot" to information as it is obtained from the environment.

and,

- 'Predictions' derived from current controls

-----

Based on the premise that the new coronas will never be completely eradicated, we will have to live in a world of coexistence with the virus.

The means to do this are "on-the-spot" and "predicting.

Of course, it has to be highly mathematical and statistical, logical, and highly targeted.

What is clear is that there is no magic parameter of 'Do this and make it perfec'

The government will continue to declare a state of emergency and the people will immediately respond to it.

Once the results are in, the state of emergency will be lifted -- and this will be repeated as many times as necessary.

That is the work of government, and the behavioral change that is required of us.

-----

There is no need for "strong leadership.

What is needed is "a leader who can mobilize the full power of government to perform advanced calculations and forecasts and deliver the results.

2021-02-02 It's not an exaggeration to say that "making technical memos available to the world" is contributing to engineers around the world. [長年日記]

I'm realizing that 'The only person who can help me is the past me'.

For a few years now, I've been trying to leave every bit of lousy code, every dirty script, every unsightly SQL statement on my homepage.

Of course, the description is only about "technology", so you know what I do, but you don't know what kind of work I do.

Or rather, it's intentionally written that way -- with all sorts of disguised information thrown in if necessary.

Because I have a duty of confidentiality regarding my work.

------

All I have in my notes are the results of using the notes (public information) left by my predecessors and running them by myself.

This is basically a "memorandum transfer to future me", but at the same time, it is intended as a "small contribution to the contributions of my predecessors".

So, I'm not sure if these "personal scribbled notes" are useful to other people, but they seem to be quite useful.

It's pretty amazing, but the page that generates the most PV on my wp.kobore.net site is

"A lot of trouble to get a single "tree" into MSYS2 (PGP key unknown)"

and

"Day by day of suffering from "dial tcp: lookup db on 127.0.0.11:53: no such host exit"

Can you believe it?

I even wondered who was using MSYS2.

-----

However, when I looked at the access log, it seems that there are accesses from all over the world.

People are using search engines to find this Far Eastern engineer's page.

And even if they can't read Japanese, they can probably guess what it is from the script that is written.

Whenever I have a technical problem, I try everything I can find, whether the content is in Chinese, Russian, or Arabic.

A cornered engineer will do anything.

-----

It's not an exaggeration to say that "making technical memos available to the world" is contributing to engineers around the world.

And this is just my personal opinion,

'Lousy code, dirty scripts, and unsightly SQL statements are useful'

Because that would be so much more helpful to me.

To be frank, a clean and concise code is of no use to me.

2021-02-03 People with Andoroid phones should be outraged, and the government should apologize for scraping its head on the floor. That's fine, and that should be. [長年日記]

"The Android version of COCOA, an app for confirming contact with patients with new coronas, has been effectively disabled since last September, and the government has apologized"

People with Android phones should be outraged, and the government should apologize for scraping its head on the floor. That's fine, and that should be.

It is outrageous that the system has not been functioning since the end of September 2020.

I also think that people who have Android phones can file a lawsuit under the State Compensation Act against the government on the grounds that they have been put at risk

(I think this is equivalent to "gross negligence" under Article 1, Section 2, but I know it is difficult to determine the damages.)

-----

That's why, as an engineer, I'm the only one who's willing to say it.

"Android phones do that a lot, don't they?"

-----

I have always thought that it would be a good idea to distribute dummy software that simulates an infected terminal.

I think that the distribution of the simulated software can be limited to only IT experts (i.e. me) who can handle at least public key cryptosystems.

I think it would be preferable for COCOA to display one or two messages a day that say, "Your phone has confirmed a reaction to the test terminal, but it is not contact with an infected person.

2021-02-04 Once a target has been locked, they will continue to criticize it, persistently and persistently. [長年日記]

Also, it seems that the former prime minister has been making gaffes and slip of the tongue incidents.

I remember him well for the "Ehime Maru" accident, but other than that, all I remember is the gaffe and tongue twister incident.

Nevertheless, since he has held many important positions, I believe he must have strong political abilities (such as coordination and glaring).

Politicians need to have such qualities -- they can't be forced to do anything.

-----

As for this gaffe, I will not participate.

I don't have the time, energy, or inclination to use social media to criticize anyone or anything.

If I am going to criticize, I want to focus on the content and the target of the criticism.

Once a target has been locked, they will continue to criticize it, persistently and persistently.

For the time being, the target will be limited to politicians and the content will be "IT" and "Corona".

-----

So, speaking of the former prime minister, that is

"It revolution"

(*) He referred to the IT revolution in this way, at a meeting with bureaucrats when he first took office.

2021-02-05 I received an e-mail from a reader of this column, who told me that he had actually prepared a "Declaration of Death with Dignity". [長年日記]

Previously, I wrote a column whose title is

Let me see! Raspberry Pi - "Visualize" your parents in numerical form.

I received an e-mail from a reader of this column, who told me that he had actually prepared a "Declaration of Death with Dignity".

-----

I thought this email would be of great value to many people, so I asked for and received permission to publish it in full.

It is reprinted below.

===== from here =====

Mr. Tomoichi Ebata

I'm Chaos, a retired *****-based former researcher/engineer.

I always enjoy reading your series of columns.

I had a chronic illness and come to create a Death with Dignity Declaration, but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit us and I panicked and notarized the document.

In addition, I notarized the will, property management contract, voluntary guardianship contract, and the person's wishes after death that cannot be stipulated in the will (no funeral, scattering of bones at sea).

I found Mr. Ebata's series of articles very helpful. Thank you very much.

-----

Rather than a declaration of death with dignity, it was more like a DNR declaration.

(*)DNR: Denial of resuscitation

My biggest fear is that I will be bedridden for an unnecessary length of time and that I will develop dementia.

I also did some research and the only way to legally refuse life-prolonging treatment is to leave a notarized letter.

The original is kept at the notary public's office, some are kept by the lawyer, and the certified copy is kept by the person himself.

Notaries are available for a fee, but they will travel to your home.

I emailed the draft back and forth, revised it, and processed it at home.

I was able to use a word processor to create documents, which was helpful.

-----

Since both ventilators and ECMO are useless if I have COVID-19, I made the following policy.

- Don't use unnecessary life-prolonging treatment. Don't waste medical resources.

- Let me die comfortably. Prioritize palliative care.

- Maximize the time I can move freely and minimize the time from hospitalization to death (even if my total life span may be shortened).

- To prevent the doctor in charge from being prosecuted for medical malpractice, he was allowed to administer IV glucose and oxygen.

- Prohibit surgery even if cancer is found (time spent sleeping in surgery is wasted)

- Specify the treatment to be refused (e.g., tracheal intubation/incision, central venous drip feeding, dialysis, gastrostomy).

I have COPD caused by smoking, and it progresses irreversibly.

(*)Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

I am receiving home oxygen therapy with an oxygen concentrator.

I'm not going to use the nursing care insurance until the very last minute because of the risk of infection from the helpers.

It was dangerous to go out, so I stopped taking physical examinations and medical checkups.

-----

I've been posting and serializing a column called "Introduction to Finding Information on Infectious Diseases" under the pseudonym of a certain Anonymous on Kadokawa's novel site, kakuyomu.jp.

If you have time, please have a look.

I solved the mathematical epidemiology model SIR numerically (I have Maple and an 8-core Xeon machine + 64 Gbyte ECC memory). I think that 80% of Uncle (Dr. Nishiura)'s claims were correct.

I hope to read about it in your series of column on the theme of "Can enhanced PCR testing control the spread of infection?"

I recommend enhanced PCR testing and detection isolation.

According to the SIR, active detection/isolation of asymptomatic infected patients should lead to Rt < 1.

-----

Although the first day of spring has passed, it is still very cold.

I pray that you will take care of yourself in the midst of the Corona disaster.

I am looking forward to your further works.

--

Sincerely yours

Chaos, as Internet Seniors Association Member

2021-02-06 I have to be prepared for 'how to get myself killed' with that kind of determination. [長年日記]

Yesterday, I published an email from a person who had a "Notarized Declaration of Death with Dignity. Today, I received an email from him again with the following information.

====== From here ======

If you have your family, it is recommended that you discuss the contents with them.

It is common for family members to make decisions against the patient's will (e.g., begging for life-prolonging treatment) at the last minute.

====== To here ======

As a matter of fact, I am also planning to make a "Notarized Declaration of Death with Dignity," and the reason is exactly the "family".

-----

As you may know, I am the one who made the decision to "kill" my father.

This was a judgment based on my own beliefs, based on my own learning, knowledge, examples and "reason".

Even now, I have no regrets.

Nevertheless, it is true that it was a lot of pressure to judge other people's lives by my own beliefs.

-----

In contrast, my daughters, who will be the judges of my life, seem to be "completely unprepared.

Ebata: "Since I've been so clear about how I want to die, I want you to 'kill me properly' in a way that conforms to my will. You are my last line of defense"

Senior daughter: "Hmm, but I'm confident that if a doctor were to tell me in a strong tone of voice that I should prolong your life. I would easily snap"

Ebata: "Oh, my..."

Senior daughter: "Well, I won't resist for three minutes. I'm sure the doctor will break me down right away"

Ebata: "That's not good enough for me..."

Junior daughter: "In the first place, it's about your life, isn't it? You have to make sure everything is in order! You can take care of yourself, can't you?"

-----

Unfortunately, my daughters are the ones with the "reason" in this case.

It seems that I need to pre-install a "batch process" that will automatically activate when I am unable to express my will.

I have to be prepared for 'how to get myself killed' with that kind of determination.

-----

I have another parent (my mother) who is living in a bedridden state.

My mother has had the chance to make her own judgments about life-prolonging treatment once before, and she has expressed her opinion -- that she wants to prolong her life.

However, I don't know what my mother is thinking about now.

My mother is no longer allowed to express her "change of judgement".

Therefore, my mother's "final judgment" has become the principle and lock for my current actions (her care and life-prolonging treatment).

-----

The greatest lesson my parents left for me was -- no matter the pros and cons, the merits and demerits, the pressures and conflicts,

"I have to decide how to handle my own life"

that is the necessity of this "self-determined death", I believe.

2021-02-07 The requirements for adult guardianship are quite strict. [長年日記]

The reader of my book, which I introduced the other day, has continued to provide me with further information on matters related to the "Death with Dignity Declaration.

Here is an overview in bullet points (for me).

- Prepare an account that the lawyer can withdraw from (for hospitalization and funeral).

- For the above, you can make an individual contract with a lawyer.

- Make a settlement account (interest free) and put money for the time being in it.

- The requirements for adult guardianship are quite strict.

I (Ebata) have also considered using this system when my father signed up for newspapers on his own.

However, at that time, I was told by the care services that my application was highly likely to be rejected because of the "reasonable and prompt" response of my sister and me(Really).

-----

Here is a checklist of things to consider

- IT accounts, passwords, and cancellation methods for Gmail, LINE, facebook, etc.

- How to get rid of online accounts, forex accounts, and exchanges for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies (I have another $600 worth).

- How to cancel an e-commerce portal such as Amazon, Rakuten, etc.

- Cancellation or termination of cloud servers (AWS, etc.)

- HDD to be Destroyed, USB Memory IT Gadgets

- Return or erase confidential documents and equipment (that should not exist).

------

I once described the story of an acquaintance whose husband died without informing her of his ID and password, leaving his wife isolated with no access to her phone, PC, or any electronic devices.

I have no doubt that this situation will arise in the case of the Ebata family.

I think I'll take this opportunity to prepare a lot of things.

2021-02-08 Trained engineers/researchers act on the assumption that they are "wrong". [長年日記]

Today, new my column is released, so I take a day off.

Dancing Buzzword - Behind the Buzzword (10) Blockchain(4)

Pledge Eternal Love to the Blockchain: An Invincible Credit System that Defies God and the Law

-----

In this series about blockchain, I'm waging a negative critique of Bitcoin, but the truth is, I'm not really interested in whether I'm right or wrong.

The reason is that we will eventually find out whether Bitcoin will fail or become a fixture in the online world.

As a matter of fact, I've been "missing predictions" quite often -- although I have my own theories, with my own knowledge and logic.

In other words, I've made a mistake.

Of course you're right. I'll make a mistake -- I'm not God.

-----

However, it seems that there are many people in the world who are reluctant to admit mistakes.

"keep silent," or "reopen," or "make endless excuses", etc.

To be honest, I think thsi guy is painful.

-----

Engineers and researchers are continually betrayed by their hypotheses every day.

In my case, every day, I am constantly denied my ideas by the simulations I have created, by the circuits I have created , and the devices I have created.

After looking at the results, there is a meaningless to say "I am not wrong!"

Because that will only tighten my own neck.

----

Trained engineers/researchers act on the assumption that they are "wrong".

It's not embarrassing to make mistakes.

Making mistakes is the quickest way to get to the right answer, and it's our job to keep making mistakes.

Then, "clarify the cause of the mistake and the reason for it" is a set of steps.

2021-02-09 ""A lonely strategy" of a senior salaried engineer without any academic cliques, connections, etc." [長年日記]

The manga whose title is "Saving a Weak Nation by the Numbers!" This is a very interesting comic book.

# You can read this on Dad's Kindle > my daughters

I found that there is also a paperback version. I'm considering buying it.

-----

As I've explained in my previous in "AI Series", this books include

- Game Theory

- Auction Theory

and, I am impressed by the very clear use cases in the story.

Also, "Holt-Winsters method" and "Lanchester's Law", which I have not known about, come to appear in the book.

I was reading the manga while looking these up on WikiPedia.

I've been vigilantly thinking about using the "Lanchester's Law" method of comparing forces in my columns.

At this age, I have finally come to understand the difference between "simple interest calculation" and "compound interest calculation".

(These are similar to the "consumer finance" and "Amway" stories we talked about before.)

-----

The consistent policy of this manga (library) is "thoroughgoing strategy for the weak".

If I were to put myself in my shoes. I could think,

""A lonely strategy" of a senior salaried engineer without any academic cliques, connections, etc."

I told you this before, too.

""Weak" is "strong" when I master it."

I learned a lot from this story.

-----

So, to all the young people of Japan, the world's leading math-phobic nation.

If you are a "loner" and want to survive in the future, math is going to be a great weapon.

2021-02-10 "No criticism, no condemnation, no support, no praise, no advice, just silence" [長年日記]

As a citizen of the host country, I am interested in where the Tokyo Olympics is going.

We are currently in the midst of an unprecedented disaster: a global viral outbreak.

Historically speaking, it would not have been surprising if a nation or two had been wiped off the face of the earth.

-----

The Olympics is a national event.

Naturally, there must be several scenarios, including implementation, postponement, or cancellation -- and I think many people are thinking that.

However, I would like to cast my vote for 'the second scenario is not prepared.

-----

This is because when I am a project leader, I don't think about multiple scenarios, or rather, I can't think about them.

Preparing for multiple scenarios requires a considerable investment of human resources, time, and money, but basically, there is no room for that at the project site.

The scariest thing is to have a field commander who doesn't understand the field -- -- Most project failures start with this commander.

This is because it is rare that a first-rate field commander is assigned to a burning site.

-----

A commander who can grasp the field is an ace in any department. No department wants to let go of its ace.

And that ace can instantly understand the burning condition of the scene. And he/she would refuse to participate at all costs.

As a result, a "useless," "unnecessary," and "helpless" commander is assigned to the burning site, and the project is headed for accelerated collapse.

Well, it may be a bit too violent to discuss the Olympics and private projects in the same sentence.

-----

The other thing is that "failure" does not require a specific scenario.

With a scenario, it is possible to lead a failure to a soft landing.

However, whether it is a soft landing or a hard landing, in the end, "failure is failure.

There are few people who have an eye for the approach of failure. The number of people who have an aesthetic appreciation for failure is almost nonexistent.

-----

I don't know where the Tokyo Olympics is going.

But I ,who has been forced to be "in the field" a lot, think that

"No criticism, no condemnation, no support, no praise, no advice, just silence"

2021-02-11 If I can live in a world where there is no such thing, I can declare, "I will become the SQL King!" [長年日記]

Now, I am using SQL statements to read out the necessary information from the database (PostgreSQL) containing the simulation results.

"SQL is really cool"

I'm very impressed.

Once you get used to SQL statements, you can easily create the columns of data you want, with the freedom to link between tables. It's like magic.

I am now using it in conjunction with QGIS (a GIS application), and it is very easy for me to create drawings.

-----

However, SQL is a very counter-intuitive interface, and if you are going to use it in an advanced way, it can be quite cumbersome.

Even though it is SQL,

"You'll have to work very hard to be easy"

This is a common contradiction in programming.

-----

I'm confident that if I had access to SQL (or Golang) all year round, I would be able to write processing programs on the spot.

(For C/C++, I believe I'm close to this realm)

Annual reports, patent specifications, Excel spreadsheets for budget management, invention consultations, executive briefing materials, external presentation review documents, customer demonstrations, conference presentations, etc.

If I can live in a world where there is no such thing, I can declare, "I will become the SQL King!"

-----

If I don't create things myself and outsource the programming and SQL, it is natural that my technical skills will decline.

However, it is also true that I cannot continue to be a member of society if I am obsessed with making things.

On the other hand, if senior engineers, who have neither humanity nor connections, lose their technical skills, what will be left?

The difficult part is "resource allocation" - in other words, "balance"。

2021-02-12 - Technology to naturally remove elderly people from the top of the organization. [長年日記]

I think I've written a little bit in this column about how "ageing itself becomes a 'power'".

Even if they are not capable or have no achievements, the elderly come to get the power -- this is the negative side of the Confucian concept of respect for the elderly.

No one can resist an elderly person who is capable and has a good track record.

It is natural.

-----

In addition, the older we get, the harder it is to change the paradigm -- and of course, the harder it is for me.

As I mentioned before, it took me several years to get "marital separation" and more than ten years to get "gay marriage".

The self-learning (self-study) to understand these things was long and painful.

If you don't know how hard this is, imagine yourself and your family in a realistic way.

"Blood marriage (brother marriage, sister marriage, brother-sister marriage, sister marriage, parent-child marriage)"

Try to simulate them in your mind how much time and study you will be able to accept them.

(Is that a good example? )

-----

Anyway,

- The elderly have power.

- Paradigm shift for the elderly is as difficult as accepting "real blood marriage".

Can't you think of it that way?

Yeah, you can't do that.

I understand.

If we assume that,

- The concept of "mutual understanding based on the premise that the elderly cannot change their minds.

and

- Technology to naturally remove elderly people from the top of the organization.

I believe that these will be the social solutions of the future.

2021-02-13 "If you were driven by technological evolution and innovation in a similar timeline and position, can you say with certainty that you could normally use today's digital technology? [長年日記]

Yesterday, I wrote about the fact that the elderly cannot change.

The earliest memory I have is of a small cathode-ray tube black and white TV.

I don't remember that, however, as far as my time is concerned, a refrigerator was one where they would buy a block of ice from an "ice man" who would come to your neighborhood and put it in the refrigerator.

The washing machine was a two-tank type, and dehydration was done with manual rollers.

-----

I think the microwave oven initially cost about 400,000 yen.

A word processor was about 2 million yen.

A PC-9800 without an OS was about 500,000 yen for a full set.

Anyone who could use a computer (before they were called "Otaku") was the "perfect technical elite".

However -- we have now been 'decided' that every citizen should own a smartphone.

Self-employed people are forced to use their PCs to file their tax returns, and citizens are encouraged to use their My Number cards to obtain documents for government services at convenience stores.

-----

What I'm trying to say is -- are we older people so 'bad' that we can't keep up with the digitalization?

No, no, no, I understand.

I know that I am the one who is blaming the elderly for not being able to use digital technology.

To be frank,

"If you were driven by technological evolution and innovation in a similar timeline and position, can you say with certainty that you could normally use today's digital technology?

-----

Well, all you elderly people, including me.

Not all of them, of course, but the majority of the people were able to go about their lives in a peaceful country without being directly involved in the ravages of war.

Hopefully, we will not be directly involved in the ravages of war and will be able to die.

We've been caught up in a "digital" disaster, but let's just say it's tolerable.

The more we continue to be wicked, the better our world will become -- maybe.

2021-02-14 Why is it that I've been with so many languages, but only the language "English" doesn't love me? [長年日記]

"How many times have I reimplemented GA (Genetic Algorithm) in a different language?"

I've been thinking about this while debugging.

I think the first time I made it, it was in "Pascal".

Next, I think it was "C".

And, I think I've done that in "python2 as well.

Furthermore, I remember implementing it in "C++" as well.

It's "Go".

It goes far beyond the "redevelopment of the wheel" dimension.

-----

I am no longer multi-lingual. It's a programming language.

Why is it that I've been with so many languages, but only the language "English" doesn't love me?

I seriously think it's "unreasonable".

-----

"GA" is really useful.

If I just define the design of the gene (or chromosome) and the evaluation function, it will quickly give me the best solution while I am taking a bath.

However, it is very difficult to design genes that prevent the generation of lethal genes.

I am not happy with the fact that even with the ordered expression method we are using now, half of the parental genetic traits will be completely destroyed.

The "AI boom" seems to be coming to the end, and there are only two technologies (deep learning and reinforcement learning) that I truly appreciate in this boom.

However, I am hoping that the new genetic design method of GA will be released, and I'm hoping that the new GA will "lightly beat" these two technologies.

-----

In any case, I don't want to call "GA" like such frivolous terms as "Artificial Intelligence".

2021-02-15 I don't know why guys like "market valuation" are used so often. [長年日記]

I often hear the line, "Market valuation is..." in the news.

However, when I look at recent stock prices, I sometimes think that this so called "market" is actually "stupid".

In fact, it was the "market" guy who failed to calculate a fair price for real estate and plunged our country into an unrecoverable recession for 20 years.

The Lehman Shock that originated in the United States is same.

I don't own any securities, stock certificates, government bonds, or any other bonds. Therefore, I can't buy or sell them.

I am not a member of this "market" guy.

In other words, I have not been included in the 'market' from the beginning.

-----

I don't know why guys like "market valuation" are used so often.

I think that's probably the only way to evaluate the "atmosphere" of the world in numerical terms.

2021-02-16 This is what all the researchers in the world write down when they are thinking about something (really). [長年日記]

This is a memo of an IT researcher who wants to cut corners as much as possible and use a computer to quickly solve the task at hand.

I described this down in the time to walk to the doctor's office and wait in the waiting room.

This memo alone contains about three inventions (although they are algorithms and hardly "patentable inventions").

If anyone can understand what is written in this memo, please let me know.

Some people may think that this memo is only for Ebata, who is "lazy" and has "dirty handwriting, however,

This is what all the researchers in the world write down when they are thinking about something (really).

2021-02-17 I can't watch this anime without crying, when the client (God) gives a half-hearted, out-of-the-box specification for a creature (e.g., "not cute, but cute animal"), and the client rejects the designs at random. [長年日記]

There is an interesting anime currently airing called "Tenchi Sozo Design Club(Creation Design Department)".

The reason why animals and plants have "evolved" into their current forms, for those who don't believe in the theory of evolution, it's "God's 'design'", is explained in a comedic and logical manner.

This anime has a cool concept.

"God, who created the heavens and the earth, got tired of creating the heavens and the earth and the water, and decided to leave the creation of living things to "subcontractors""

I can't watch this anime without crying, when the client (God) gives a half-hearted, out-of-the-box specification for a creature (e.g., "not cute, but cute animal"), and the client rejects the designs at random.

I also have a great deal of sympathy for Ms. Higuchi(*), who actually makes prototypes of living things according to the design and clearly points out the problems.

(*)The only female engineer in the Prototype Room of the Animal Department.

-----

In my daily life, this concept can be read the following way.

"The general electronics company that created the IT platform got tired of designing APIs and decided to leave the creation of applications and services to "subcontractors"."

Or I can read it this way.

"The executives of the company that came up with the concept for the next generation social infrastructure got tired of the concept once it was announced, and decided to throw the implementation, demonstration tests, and patent applications to the "research department"."

-----

I think I've been both the perpetrator (client) and the victim (host).

Naturally, it's hard to recognize myself as a perpetrator, but there's a lot I can say from a victim's perspective.

For example, I am likely to say that

"If you want me to do a field experiment, you're going to have to take the lead and run around the city on a sub-zero night in the middle of winter to tune the experiment system"

2021-02-18 "Tozan no Kin-san, the 'False Accusation' Catcher's Notebook" [長年日記]

Daughter: "Someone once told me that there are two standards in the world: 'justice and evil' and 'like and dislike'"

Ebata: "That's not true. There is only one standard, 'like and dislike'"

Daughter: "Isn't there a 'Justice and evil'?

Ebata: "'Justice and evil' is just a relative concept. It can be easily turned 180 degrees depending on where we stand, so I don't think it's very important.

-----

Well, I know that many philosophers in the past and the present have thought to death in search of the most 'absolute justice'.

But if it's something we have to think about to death to understand, I think it's terribly tedious and even "dangerous" to put "absolute justice" as a common value standard.

-----

Ebata: "To begin with, do you know how the operation of the rule of law in a country under the rule of law is carried out? Well, the trial is just one example"

Daughter: "To judge a person only on the basis of evidence and law, without 'subjectivity' right?

Ebata: "That's a pretext. This story was taught to me in law seminar, and I myself was astonished...."

Then I started to talk about the process of a trial.

-----

(Step.1) The judge decides on the subjective "likes and dislikes" of the defendant and comes up with a rough idea of guilt/innocence and the amount of the sentence.

(Step.2) The judge then lays out in his or her mind the multiple articles of law from which to derive this guilt/innocence and sentence amount.

(Step.3) The judge considers whether these articles can be applied to the case in question. If it works, they apply it to the judgment.

-----

Ebata: "The above (Step.1) to (Step.3) are shared by not only judges but also prosecutors and defense attorneys. Then, these three parties work together to reach a decision. This is the basic trial approach.

Daughter: "No way..."

Ebata: "Of course, the above is a civil case with clear circumstantial and physical evidence, however, they can add extenuating circumstances, trends in public opinion, and social norms. And finally, the judgment is made based on the subjective standard of "How much can I forgive this defendant?""

Daughter: "'Justice and evil' is not the standard...

Ebata: "'Justice and evil' is a 'tool concept' that exists as a rationale for 'like and dislike'."

Daughter: "Then what is the point of the law's existence?

Ebata: "No, no, the important point is this: 'Even if they start from 'like and dislike', they can't make a judgment based only on 'like and dislike'".

Daughter: "?

Ebata: "It doesn't matter what kind of law they use, but they must always make a logical (pretend) judgment based on a clearly stated law -- this is the principle of the rule of law, and it is also the last resort."

-----

In that sense, "Toyama no Kin-san" made judgments based on "likes and dislikes" alone, and at his own discretion.

As for me, I think that "Toyama no Kin-san" has definitely functioned as a "false accusation manufacturing system".

That's why I want to watch a TV drama whose title is

"Tozan no Kin-san, the 'False Accusation' Catcher's Notebook"

2021-02-19 "How much would you pay for a pair of jeans that an IT engineer wore at home for a year while he was at home?" [長年日記]

I took a sauna at the super public bath in front of the station for the first time in a long time, since I couldn't get rid of the tiredness no matter if I took stabilizers or sleeping pills.

Although we are in the middle of declaring a state of emergency, there were quite a few customers in the public bath.

Well, that's beside the point.

----

There were about ten people in the sauna, which had a capacity of about twenty, and they were all silently watching the TV screen in front of them.

In one of the variety shows, the topic of jeans in Onomichi came up.

"Making damaged jeans by having people in Onomichi actually wear the jeans"

I was surprised to hear that, and even more surprised to hear that it could be sold for two to three times the cost.

-----

I'm a jeans user who doesn't see even 1mm value in damaged jeans.

However,

"I buy cheap jeans from Amazon, wear them down until they rip, and when they do, I repair them with wood glue"

So, it's impossible for me to share the value of "damaged jeans".

-----

Incidentally,

"How much would you pay for a pair of jeans that an IT engineer wore at home for a year while he was at home?"

I was thinking about something trivial in the sauna.

2021-02-20 So, these days, before weighing myself, I warm up the scale sufficiently on the stove. [長年日記]

The key missions of telecommuting in Corona disaster are weight control and regular exercise.

Recently, I have come to understand that if I leave the scale in front of the stove, it will show my weight about 200 grams lighter.

So, these days, before weighing myself, I warm up the scale sufficiently on the stove.

-----

By the way, my wife says to me, "I don't know what you're thinking.

2021-02-21 "In this case, religions (including cults) that insist on "doing meritorious deeds in this life for a happy next life" are still better" [長年日記]

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of "cross-world reincarnation manga" in web ads.

The reason why such ads appear is because I can read the ads in a disciplined manner.

The content of "reincarnation" is an embodiment of the psychology of escaping from reality -- however, let's not say that it's a bad thing.

Dreaming/showing is the job of the creator and the creations.

"I want to be an elementary school student with the knowledge I have now, and I want to beat up the adults (teachers)"

It is also a form of escapism.

(This is almost the same as what I wrote here.)

-----

I wondered what kind of world I would like to be reincarnated in.

However, I can't seem to visualize this in any concrete way.

I'm thinking in terms of the content of "Reincarnation"

- A world in the past that we know the events of the future.

- A medieval world where medicine and science have not yet developed

- A world where magic and supernatural powers that cannot be used in this world

These worlds often appear. So I think I want to be reincarnated,

"A world where I can use the knowledge and skills I have cultivated through hard work in the current world"

-----

This means that in order to live happily in the world of "otherworld reincarnation", I must continue to face hardships, efforts, and unpleasant experiences in the "present world" (checked).

This means that I want to dream about the "other world" where we don't have to make any effort in order not to have any hardship, not to make any effort, and not to get into any trouble in the "present world", and I want to dream about the "other world" where we don't need to make any effort (checked).

-----

"In this case, religions (including cults) that insist on "doing meritorious deeds in this life for a happy next life" are still better"

I am afraid that I noticed that.

2021-02-22 "If we find ourselves in a situation similar to the Pacific War, we will start the war again, regardless of the lessons of history" [長年日記]

I read "Economists on the Outbreak of War between Japan and the United States"

The Shinchosensho was quite a hard book for me to read, but I finished it in four days, walking an hour every day.

In this book,

(1) In the face of an overwhelming disadvantageous power gap (Japan-U.S. power ratio: 1:20-50)

(2) The information in (1) above is not secret information, but is widely disclosed not only to those in power, but also to the public.

(3) Before the start of the war, the simulation of "Japan's inevitable defeat" was completed perfectly, and

(4) The cabinet, the government, and even the military were almost all aware of this reality.

even under the circumstances of (1)~(4), rather because of the circumstances, Japan's entry into the Pacific War.

This is a book that clarifies this fact from the perspective of behavioral economics.

-----

I thought there were many ways to read it, but my biggest thought was,

"The cause of the war was not the military or the government, but rather the people who could not or would not read the numbers"

According to the author's analysis, "a government that is weak and incapable of decision-making" and "an incompetent and crude army" are quite fanciful.

-----

And as I read this book, I was thinking, "If I were in power, could I have turned this around and averted war?

However, I became convinced that it was hopelessly impossible.

In particular, I thought that prospect theory was too strong.

-----

Option A : If the war does not start, Japan will be brought to its knees by the economic blockade of the U.S. and Britain in three years.

Option B : If the war starts, we will almost certainly lose. However,

(1) If Germany defeats the Soviet Union and

(2) If the Germans succeed in landing in England, and

(3) If Japan acquires the resources of Southeast Asia, establishes transportation routes, and

(4) If the British surrender to the Germans

At that time, the U.S. may lose its will to engage in war and accept a peace treaty.

Even if there are four "ifs" and one "might" (which is a near-zero possibility by any measure), according to the prospect theory of behavioral economics, "choice A" < "choice B".

-----

According to the author, if there is a way to avoid this situation, it is

(1) A "dictator who insists on avoiding war" will appear in our country.

(2) Choose option A and wait for the situation to change somewhere in the next three years with "no action".

The author's summation, "These would have been the only two ways," resonated with me.

-----

"If we find ourselves in a situation similar to the Pacific War, we will start the war again, regardless of the lessons of history"

It was a book that gave me a pretty good sense of "desperation".

2021-02-23 I told my family not to hold a funeral for me -- "If you have that kind of money, go eat sushi with the family. [長年日記]

I remember writing somewhere once that I wondered if a New Year's card with only pictures of the family's children would work.

Well, for me, it's because 'their friend's child is a stranger to me.

I can't help but look at other people's pictures.

-----

My senior daughter once told me that there is a concept called "Nengajo Harassment" these days.

While there are diverse ways of living (DINK, single, partnership), it seems that expressing what they belong to (their mate, family, etc.) is harassment.

I think, "Yes, that's true," and I also think, "Do I really need to worry about it that much?

However, if I admit to "New Year's card harassment," I am the one who carried out "blog harassment" and "column harassment.

If I try to describe anyone other than myself, they will all be "harassment".

-----

While "blogs" and "columns" are pull-type information media that those who do not want to read can avoid reading, "New Year's cards" are push-type information media.

When I think about it, I feel that "New Year's cards" can be included in the list of harassment.

On the other hand, "New Year's cards" have the property that if we stop sending them, they will also stop sending them.

Hence, "New Year's card harassment" may be overthinking it.

The only remaining troublesome issue is how to handle New Year's greeting cards for relatives, bosses, mentors, and other people whose connections are hard to ignore.

-----

Well, I think of New Year's cards as "cards for making a list of attendees for my funeral," so I don't really care.

I told my family not to hold a funeral for me -- "If you have that kind of money, go eat sushi with the family.

2021-02-24 I don't know how to put it into words, but if I had to, I'd say "good" and "bad". [長年日記]

About my works (creating simulations, communication programs), I sometimes use the resources of my personal computer (PC) to the limit.

When the limit is exceeded, the application will stop and the PC will freeze.

In the first place, the Windows and Linux operating systems (OS) manage the resources of the computer to prevent this from happening, but our work can extend beyond the control of the OS.

All the work I have done so far will disappear, so I must avoid such a situation.

In other words, it is (sometimes) necessary to manage and control the inside of the PC world by myself, without leaving it to the OS.

-----

When I'm at my computer, it seems that I am a lonely and un "ultimate isolation".

However, it can be said that it is the "sociable person" that controls multiple tasks at the same time without downing any one of them.

In other words, how you look, and how others see you, is ultimately relative.

-----

"A person who is cheerful, diplomatic, and capable of leadership" -- this is called a "cheerful".

This has been the case for a long time -- at least since the days when I was a teenager, and "cheerful" has continued to reign as a steadfast value.

As antonyms, adjectives such as "dark-hearted," "gloomy," "negative," and "nerd" have been abused as derogatory terms for people.

However, I think that this structure of opposition between "cheerful" and "nerd" can no longer be contrasted as it used to be due to the intrusion of the virtual space of the Internet.

I don't know how to put it into words, but if I had to, I'd say "good" and "bad".

(To be continued)

2021-02-25 "You also shut up for a minute" [長年日記]

(Continuation from yesterday)

I want to change myself... I've never thought about that in my life.

# When I tell people about this, they seem to be quite taken aback.

There are two reasons for this.

The first reason is because it's "weird".

It seems to me that "I want to change myself" means "I want to exchange myself", which is the same as "I want to become someone else" --so I don't understand it and it's weird.

The second reason is that I believe that we cannot change ourselves in the first place.

I think it is as difficult as changing a material called "wood" to a material called "stone".

Well, it might be possible to change "wood" to "stone".

However, when I think about the energy spent on the conversion, I can't help but think it's irrational or a waste of time and money.

-----

So, back to the topic of "good" and "bad"...

Instead of "changing myself," I think it's better to think about "how to use (operate) myself better.

Probably, "how to utilize" will take less money and time, and it is definitely easier.

"If it were that easy to find a way to utilize myself, I wouldn't have all this trouble!"

I can understand the point of view, but I think the odds are better than the reckless challenge of "changing myself".

-----

Well, when it comes to this kind of talk, I think it sounds like "bragging from the top" from a guy who just happens to have his life in a good way.

Maybe so.

So I also think it is "polite" for "people who live with the feeling that something is going well" to keep quiet about it.

I sometimes feel that I must be silent too.

I make a lot of noise in my columns and blogs, but there are many things I keep quiet about.

-----

On the other hand--

When I see people abusing words like "I hate myself" and "I want to change myself" and acting like it's an "exemption" for their life not going well...

Yes, for example, when I listen to teen idol songs full of those kinds of lyrics.

"You also shut up for a minute"

That's what I want to say.

2021-02-26 We are going to survive the worst disaster in human history (COVID-19), this time with the strongest good luck in human history (mRNA vaccine). [長年日記]

Today, new my column is released, so I take a day off.

Let's turn the world by "Number"(65) : Extra edition

A doctor writes to an engineer about how a fake coronavirus will save humanity

-----

After receiving the report from Dr. Shibata, it was a rush job involving him and Ms. M from EE Times Japan.

"It's now or never!" I've been immersed in the work, feeling rushed.

Well, this column can be summed up with this phrase on the last page.

Ebata: "Well, to be honest, it was such a huge shock that it instantly wiped out "artificial intelligence," "quantum computers," and other technologies of that level. I'm convinced that it's an innovation worthy of a Nobel Prize 10 years in advance, and a milestone in the history of science.

We are going to survive the worst disaster in human history (COVID-19), this time with the strongest good luck in human history (mRNA vaccine).

-----

After finishing emailing the final draft to EE Times Japan, I went down to the living room and had a cup of instant coffee.

I began to speak to my family.

"This is something I got from a junior colleague of mine..."

"Whatever his qualifications, nobody could deny that the former president of the United States is a 'top-notch gambler'"

Upon hearing this, all the family members seemed to be deeply convinced.

2021-02-27 "Huh-uh. My body! Be fooled by the computer-designed 'digital coronavirus'" [長年日記]

After writing my last column (the first half of the Shibata Report), I think I have a rough idea of what I know about the new coronary vaccine.

And I, as an IT engineer, am looking forward to the day when the digitally designed vaccine is put into my body (the day of vaccination).

"Huh-uh. My body! Be fooled by the computer-designed 'digital coronavirus'"

I can't stop the excitement just thinking about it (*)

When I mentioned this to my family, they just brushed it off, saying, "There are many people in the world who think in different ways.

-----

"Digital virus (mRNA)(*) is injected into the body to eradicate the analog virus (SARS-CoV-2)"

(*) Of course, this expression is just a metaphor.

This kind of science fiction story is now being given to all human beings in the world -- this is a great thing.

Of course, we can say that "we were lucky this time" or "it was a good match with SARS-CoV-2," but this technology should be able to be deployed to other viral infections.

Digital viruses can be used to treat most cancers, not to mention viral infections such as this one.

What's more,

"Can homosexuals have children? Basic Knowledge for Verification - iPS and ES Cells"

This technology should also be able to be applied to iPS cells, as described in this column.

Since mRNA can also produce proteins with information that is not described in our DNA, it should not be necessary to limit its purpose to "antibody production.

I have a strong feeling that the era of IT (Information Technology) x GT (Genetic technology) will be in full swing from now on.

-----

Well, at the same time, we can foresee the movement of that resistance.

Test tube babies" and "cloned cows" are now common knowledge.

By the way, I haven't heard of any groups (Vatican, etc.) protesting about this mRNA, saying that the vaccine design approach is against God's teachings.

They were even protesting against "ES cells" before the advent of "iPS cells". However, ES cells were stuck on the point of "using fetal cells", which may be different from this case.

-----

This time, if the Vatican moves in the direction of slamming the "mRNA vaccine", we may end up "excommunicating the Vatican from the world" -- a situation that would be very difficult to avoid.

That's something I'd like to see, though.

2021-02-28 I even consider the decision to hold the graduation ceremony in the first place as "a great degree". [長年日記]

It seems that the graduation ceremony of my eldest daughter's university will be held without being cancelled, but there seemed to be various restrictions due to the Corona measures.

Aside from the obvious "no parent/guardian allowed to attend," I had other questions, so I contacted the university.

Since I couldn't get through on the phone, I contacted them by email and received the following response.

- We can't even enter the university campus.

- Taking a picture in front of the university gate is also not allowed.

In other words, "the complete exclusion of non-graduates from the graduation ceremony.

(I reviewed the Evite Notification web site today and found that information about the above two has been added.)

-----

I think it's a good decision".

I even consider the decision to hold the graduation ceremony in the first place as "a great degree".

-----

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who are in a position to take charge of organizing the event at this time of the year.

The least I can do is to minimize their hardships as much as possible.
