Watching a dispute on the Internet, I think that many people don't know "burden of proof".

Tom:"The UK should be breakaway from EU. Because the choice brings us a profit."

A dispute is going to start like the above arguments.

Tom:"You are wrong. The breakaway is better than stay."

Nancy:"If you say so, show me the evidence of your opinion"

In many case, this type of argument is going like the above.

However, in this case, Nancy's opinion is not fair.

This means,

"Nancy has a responsibility for "burden of proof" of "The breakaway is worse than stay."

or

"Nancy has a responsibility for "burden of proof" of "The stay is better than the breakaway."

This is a simple story.

It is Nancy who should make an effort to argue TOM down, and

Tom doesn't have to make an effort for Nancy's argument.

According to a legal parlance,

"Burden of proof" is generated by the side that needs the profit.

In plain words, it means,

"If you want to enforce your policy to others, you should make an effort to realize it."

as a self-evident truth.
