2014-04-26 Can you image the programming without debugging?

When I was a college student, a professor of my laboratory used to tell me,

In the past, in order to use the computer, he had to ask for the large scale computer centers in University of Tokyo.

In order to make a calculation, he had to send a bunch of punch cards that were written a program to University of Tokyo. (The punch card were written "Z(1) = Y + W(1)" only).

Ebata: "Professor, how did you debug the programming?"

Prof.:"There was no concept of debug in those days"

-----

Can you believe it?

Can you image the programming without debugging?

He drilled a hole in the punch card of several thousand pieces (with loudly noise), and packed the card in cardboard box to the university.

After that he had to wait the results for several months.

Can you live in the world as a research engineer?

The program code that was written in one card is just one line, for example "Z(1) = Y + W(1)".

If I had been him, I would have gone mad no doubt.

-----

Prof.:"When I noticed the error of the top of program list, I don't know how to express the despair…"

Ebata: "Professor, you don't have to say any more.

However I had one deeply question about it, and I asked him,

Ebata:"How do you get the result of error?"

Prof.:"I had got a paper that is described just "Syntax error in line 1"".

Listening to this story, I really cried.

-----

People who have their own personal computer that far surpasses the computational capability of the computer center of the University of Tokyo at the time.

And the specified guys who use only for erotic game, contents of copyright violation and careless tweets.

Apologize to my professor.

2015-04-26 I don't like "long vacation" so called.

_

I don't like "long vacation" so called.

I always think that I am happier to increase ordinal national holiday to make the long vacation.

To begin with, the inefficient of the long vacation is outstanding.

Crowded at anywhere, price high for whatever, and having to do what I don't want to do.

Of course I know well, thanks to such long vacations, we can take days off with machines in production lines, child company which is difference in social standing, is easier to take the long vacations too. Tourism-based economy is established based on the vacations, and each family members can share the same period.

We don't ignore the significance of the long vacation.

Above all, from the view of our nationality, that we cannot consume our private time without pressure like this system, this long vacation system might be good for us.

But I have the blues.

I think that there are some people in Japan, who hope to finish the vacation before the beginning day of the vacation.

2016-04-26 "they don't care of politician's zipper moral"

The old day, the media had a implied contract between the power, like

"they don't care of politician's zipper moral"

and they hesitated dealing with politician's sexual scandal as a implied rule.

-----

You know, premarital sex, comarital sex and marital infidelity are not penal offense(principle of free love)

(There was "criminal conversation" before the WW2. The law was abolished after the WW2)

Of course, I know that many people feel that they are immoral and irremissible.

But the persons who can ask for compensation against premarital sex, comarital sex and marital infidelity are only victims, for example spouses, affianced, family in law.

Even if we blame for the unfaithfulness, no influence will happen against the person in the legal sense of the term.

Beyond that, politicians have power.

At that age, it was terrible difficult for ordinal people to rip from their platform.

-----

At the present, I don't know how the implied rule is managed, however,

(Step 1) Enormous flaming messages happen on the Internet.

(Step 2)The medias start blaming with using the flaming messages.

(Step 3)After that, the hostile forces(opposition parties, civic association) begin to drive out the person with using the above actions.

The above pattern seems to be usual these days.

2017-04-26 "Happiness not to understand Japanese"

When I was in Colorado, USA. I asked a local native speaker who taught English conversation to me.

He was a teacher of the college where my wife had attend for ESL(English Second Language) class, and he had been in Japan before.

I often remember that he said

"Happiness not to understand Japanese"

"When I was in Japan, I felt unhappy not to use Japan sees frequently. However thanks to that, it was true that I could enjoy life in Japan"

I think this story comes to be generalized.

It means,

Not only I but also other persons, who have experienced overseas work, can return to Japan with happy memories. Because

"We could not understand local language around place of our posts"

-----

Anyway in my case, I didn't take care of detailed things, because I had to survive in non-interactive place.

We shifted to a defiant attitude, like "it cannot be helped that we are annoying people by default. This is the company's responsibility, not us"

First of all, nobody seems to make a complaint about non-native speakers isses by the native language.

If I am good at English to understand people 's minions, dislikes, and writing of the net in the context,

I think that my overseas assignment was filled with considerable misery.

2018-04-26 I was almost to cry "Allah Akbar!"

One of the members of the former idol group caused a trouble due to drinking, and it became a fuss.

It is very unlikely for me to make such a rush at this timing.

I don't hope you will be convinced saying "Ebata, too ...".

Apart from that.

-----

"Non-alcoholic beer is delicious enough"

I feel that.

Of course, alcohol beer should be more delicious.

However, I can not consume alcohol now, non-alcoholic beer is much more delicious than soft drink.

I think that some drink-bars should have a non alcoholic beer server. I wonder if there is something, such a bar.

-----

I would like engineer to try to develop the following product by all means.

- Non alcoholic sake

- Non alcohol wine

Here, I use a search engine, I found the products like that.

I was deeply moved.

However,

- Non alcoholic whiskey

has not been, but I could find it.

(The description below)

Under Islamic precepts, alcohol intake is prohibited, Usually, Muslim can not drink alcohol and any alcohol is regarded as nonhalal (illegal) food.

However, regarding this whiskey, it is certified by Halal (legal) food by the Islamic Food & Nutrition Council, and It is a beverage that Muslims can enjoy without carrying doctrinal sins.

I was almost to cry "Allah Akbar!"

2019-04-26 "Oh, well, Do you have a feeling that you would like the reader to read your book? "

The NHK text "100 minutes de masterpiece" is also read from Kant, Ortega to Spinoza.

I brought the text to the bathroom, dropped it in the bathtub, filled it with a highlighter, and frayed it in just a day.

I thought "It's okay to collect the whole text of this series".But when I checked it closely, I noticed that there were some author texts that you do not want to read. So I will not collect the whole text.

Anyway, one book is about 600 yen, cost performance is also the best.

-----

The only thing I do not know is why those philosophers didn't write a book like the "100 Minutes de Masterpiece" by themselves,

Indeed, the original book of philosophy is like,

"Oh, well, Do you have a feeling that you would like the reader to read your book? "

difficult to understand.

Well, I read Japanese translation versions, so honestly I do not understand "how difficult the original book is"

However, the person who wrote the Japanese translation should have tried to translate it as closely as possible to the original book after understanding it well.

Therefore, I think that it is not wrong that the original book itself is difficult.

(I am only reading the original English technical book when When all other means are exhausted.

―― How does a person (philosopher) who intends to improve society write a book that the public can not understand?

I think so.

I would like to say, "As same an original book, write the summary as well as a summary," "you will not leave the work of" 100 minutes de masterpiece "to later generations."

2020-04-26 Needless to say, COVID-19, which has neither an effective vaccine nor a means for curative cure, is horribly "compatible" with computer calculations (simulations).

(Continuation from yesterday)

====== Ebata's answer From here ======

In conclusion, everything is "Dr.Shibata's point is correct".

In fact, I think I didn't really understand the realities of outbreaks.

Infections that I have been aware of around me, are influenza, colds, dysentery, cholera, and tuberculosis.

Influenza basically converges when the season changes, and containment of other infections has succeeded due to the efforts of many people.

-----

By the way, as a calculator, I do not have an "infection explosion" , but a "calculation explosion on a daily basis."

Computer often causes the phenomenon of overflow.

This means that I can accidentally set your computer's calculation parameters to generate exponential numbers, which can make my computer shut down.

It is, so to speak, an "overshoot" of computer resources.

The "overshoot" of the computer occurs instantly immediately after the calculation is started (the moment the return key is pressed).

So,

If the "overshoot" really occurs in the real world, major cities in Japan will be paralyzed in one month, and corpses will be left on the street within two months.

This was, in my mind, a matter of expectation.

However I downgraded "it is just a story of the virtual world inside the computer"

"Does overflow (overshoot) really appear in the real world?"

with no basis.

-----

So now I'm stunned.

I have never seen a case in which the phenomenon of the virtual world in a computer appeared so perfectly in the real world.

Needless to say, COVID-19, which has neither an effective vaccine nor a means for curative cure, is horribly "compatible" with computer calculations (simulations).

There is no doubt that the current government COVID-19 countermeasure team and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare use computer simulations every day.

(It depends on the model, but if the population is around 10 million people, I think that it can be calculated even with a personal computer).

Therefore, if we do not follow the current COVID-19 infection control measures indicated by the national and local governments,

"25 million infections, 640,000 deaths" (Source: Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare 2007 (13 years ago))

I also know that the above can easily become a reality.

(The reason why the number of people of "25 million" is the upper limit, is that the number of people who have acquired immunity to infect will decrease the infection rate (R0 < 1).

Anyway, I think that the government policy of current "80% reduction in contact" is trusted based on scientific and mathematical grounds.

(Maybe I guess the threshold that leads to "R0 <1.0" is between 70% and 80%)

-----

Anyway, Dr Shibata's comment

However, if I would like to add only one point, Mr. Ebata. you could not anticipate this "nightmare", but you could expect the number itself, Could you?

I have to admit that it is ture.

====== Ebata's answer To here ======

2021-04-26 Before the end of the workday on Fridays, You say to your subordinates "Please do this work, and submit it at the start of work on Monday"

In yesterday's diary, I wrote about my boss who wrote the patent specification for me.

That reminded me of this story.

"I want to thank you all for your tremendous efforts. Can I say thank you again?"

However, while this story is a good one in one respect, it also has a frightening implication in another respect.

-----

When I was posted to the U.S., I was an "employee, etc." as described in Article 35 (Employee Invention) of the Patent Law.

At the time, I had no idea what the future held for me as an "employer, etc." (manager).

Even now, I have not been aware of this.

However, I believe this is a major, fatal problem.

This is because working with the mindset that you are an "employee, etc." will result in

"the people around you working in violation of the law"

In fact, I even wrote a column about it myself.

-----

However, this time, I was about to do "this".

On the contrary, I may have already done it, many times.

If you receive a warning from the company's line, you will have to write a letter of apology, and in some cases, you will be subject to punishment under the Labor Law, and in civil cases, you will obviously be found guilty of power harassment.

Let's use a concrete example.

Before the end of the workday on Fridays, You say to your subordinates "Please do this work, and submit it at the start of work on Monday"

In other words, it's all about

It's a sense of naivety, of thinking, "It's not my team's problem.

This is really, really scary, I thought.

-----

"I want to thank you all for your tremendous efforts. Can I say thank you again?"

There is a devilish suggestion in this phrase that makes you break the law, break the rules.

(This is sometimes referred to as the "motivation" scam.)

Let's be really really careful.

If you don't have a strong awareness of it, "It doesn't matter to my team" will be invoked unconsciously -- really.

Anyway, I am a person who

"I'm only this competent" even though I always talk like an great.

I reaffirmed this with desperation.

-----

Now, there must be many bosses in Japan who don't tell you to "work for GW" but implicitly force you to do so.

Such bosses may not be doing it arbitrarily, but may simply be unaware of the "violation" of the law.

At any rate,

I recently read a column by an engineer named Ebata. It was quite interesting. Especially this one.

It may be effective to casually send the URL of this page to your boss, saying with that.

It's a small price to pay if it makes your boss aware that she/he is going to "breaking the law".

2022-04-26 "Tent habitability is the worst"

Solo camping (camping alone) has recently become popular.

When I was a young man, I used to post a set of camps on my motorcycle and go touring.

And people who have "never been" camping, or sometimes even people who have "been", tend to forget the following.

"Tent habitability is the worst"

It is usually either as hot as a sauna or as cold as the open air.

Naturally, we cannot get a good night's sleep.

The next day, dragging my lead-like body, we have to move on.

I once went on a touring trip to Hokuriku in GW, but I reached my physical limit on the second day and had to stay at a business hotel on the third day.

I was exhausted and convinced that if I continued on my motorcycle trip, I would 'cause an accident'.

-----

In the first place, we humans are a species that has evolved by abandoning the idea of living in nature, building houses, cities, and means of transportation.

A reckless desire to return to nature, without preliminary training, can be deadly.

I strongly recommend that you make your solo camping debut only after you have done the camp enough times with an experienced person.

To the worst case, you may become a "hermit" who decides that "home is best" for the rest of your life.

-----

Wandering around the world (mainly in Asia) with a backpack on my back - that was "me on another world line".

With many sacrifices, I have arrived at the "current world line" where "home is best".

2023-04-26 Anyway, I honestly think it is a bit naive to estimate that 'killing bad people (but by our standards of value) will turn things around'.

We civilians talk about 'why don't you just assassinate the Russian president?

I understand their feelings, but I think they are missing the point of view of what happens after the assassination of the Russian president.

For example, there should be a "No. 2" who is a moderate, civil-rights international reconciliation advocate who is opposed to the dictatorial president and who is supported by the public.

However, such a person, it would be natural to be removed from the line, and if he/she should have had to be purged.

Alternatively, the domestic situation should be one in which civilians are being slaughtered by the police or army and the dictator is completely turned against the people.

In addition, the best scenario is for the dictator to be executed by the people within the country.

Such favorable conditions, however, are not easy to realize.

After the assassination of a dictator -- as far as I know -- civil wars and terrorist attacks cause domestic casualties on an unprecedented scale, and those who advocate the establishment of a religious state like IS begin to dominate and terrorism spreads to other countries.

Anyway, dictatorships are terribly difficult to maintain after they are destroyed.

-----

In the first place, armed intervention from outside the country, including assassination, constitutes interference in internal affairs and invasion.

The current invasion of Ukraine is also the reason why NATO forces cannot invade Russia because of the above major principles (and of course, the nuclear threat).

The NATO organization is a military alliance designed to avoid this problem of interference in internal affairs and aggression -- "If one of the allies is attacked, all of the allies are considered to have been attacked.

Incidentally, the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty has the same structure.

For example, if Fort Collins, Colorado is attacked, our Self-Defense Forces, as an ally, "can participate" in the war.

However, in the case of Japan, the Self-Defense Forces cannot use force for any purpose other than territorial defense under the provisions of the Constitution -- and since this makes no sense for a military alliance, the "right of collective self-defense" was created (I will skip this topic today).

Anyway, to be frank, Ukraine joining NATO is certainly one of the worst of nightmares for Russia.

Regarding this, the BS Premium "Russia: The Origins of the Clash" was interesting.

-----

The same is true of "Why Don't You Just Assassinate the Head of North Korea?

That place is geopolitically located in a messy place.

Bordered by Russia, China, and South Korea, China and South Korea in particular find that monarchical socialist country to be a hassle at heart.

The U.S. has been fooled by that country many times, but since it serves to keep the troublesome powers (Russia and China) at bay, it will not seriously attempt a military attack.

It would be better to remain as they are now than to become desperate and attack the U.S. mainland with missiles.

-----

'If you assassinate the General Secretary of China' is no longer good enough, no questions asked.

I can easily predict that this will be a terrible tragedy, far beyond my imagination.

-----

Anyway, I honestly think it is a bit naive to estimate that 'killing bad people (but by our standards of value) will turn things around'.

2024-04-26 "Rokubei of the Kuro-Shoin room"

The following content comes to Amazon Prime.

Somehow, my intuition told me it was a "hit," and I started watching it with my wife.

"Rokubei of the Kuro-Shoin room"

My wife got off after the first episode (6 in all). Still, I was watching this content while investigating the video distribution server -- and I finished watching all the episodes until 4:00 in the morning.

I didn't feel much at the time, but the next morning, in my futon, I remembered my late father, and tears began to flow.

-----

As far as I know, my father ended his life without a single moment of weakness in front of me -- the exact opposite of me.

On the other hand, as you know, I am a person who keeps saying "ouch," "painful," "suffering," and "I can't do it," and continues to disclose them without any shame or shame.

This way of living that matches my inner and outer life is probably right from the perspective of protecting my mind and body.

However, my father, who remained silent without ever revealing any such thing -- at least to me, he said to me and conveyed to me a lot -- now seems to me that he did.

My father is dead, but at least he lives on in me' -- lines like that I can say, unabashedly, but with conviction.

Well, I think that when I die, then my father will die too, in the true sense of the word.

And, that's fine.

-----

I wrote the following in my diary,

"However, in my life, I have come to know that "honesty" is never inferior to "not honesty."

My father passed away, leaving me with this.

And then it occurred to me,

When I thought, 'Will I be able to leave something like this to someone else like my father did--'

I now chuckle to myself, 'Probably not.'
