後輩：「つまりですね、食事において、『おしゃべり』とはスパイスなのです よ」

Younger: “After all, chatting in lunch is a kind of spice."

江端：「スパイス？」

Ebata: “Spice?"

後輩：「そうです。それは、食事を美味しく、楽しくするものです」

Younger: “Yes. It makes a meal fun and delicious"

江端：「ほう、『美味しく、楽しく』、とな」

Ebata: “Well, fun and delicious"

それを聞いた時に、

When I heard his phases, I was convinced,

江端：「私が、食事の時に常に同じ書物を読んでいる、とでも思っているのか？」

Ebata: “Do you think that I always read a same book during each lunch time?"

後輩：「え？」

Younger: “What? Pardon?"

江端：「私が、食事の内容、場所、時間で、書物を変更していることは知っているか」

Ebata: “Don’t you know that I change a book for each meal's contents, place, and time?"

後輩：「そうなんですか」

Younger: “Are you kidding?"

江端：「中華、カレー、寿司、牛丼、はては、ケーキ屋でカフェを楽しむ場合まで、その書物の種類は異なってくるのだ」

Ebata:” I change kinds of book according to China, Curry, Sushi, Beef bowl, and cake shop.

後輩：「そうなんですか」

Younger: “Really?"

江端：「だから私は、常にリュックとサイドバックの両方に、合計3冊以上の本を携帯している」

Ebata: “So I always have more than three books in both my rucksack and side back"

後輩：「例えば、どういう組合せになるのですか」

Younger: “Show us the combination, for example"

江端：「そうだな。カレーなどではアクション物の小説、牛丼では時事問題が多い。酒を嗜みながらの一人メシの場合は、次のコラムのネタの為の、結構重い社会問題を扱うものを読む」

Ebata: “Let me see. Curry and novel of action, Beef bowl and current topics. In the case of a lunch alone with drinking, I read a quite heavy social problem for the next column."

後輩：「ケーキ屋では？」

Younger: “How about cake shop?"

江端：「うむ、西尾維新先生の『物語シリーズ』が良いマッチングだ」

Ebata: “Well, it is good for me to read Monogatari-serise by Nishio-Ishin sensei"

後輩：「そこまで考えて、一人メシをされていたのですか」

Younger:” I don't know what you thought deeply"

江端：「外食に合わせて、わざわざ本を購入することもある」

Ebata: “Sometimes I buy new book for a kind of lunch."

後輩：「・・・」

Younger:"...."

江端：「食事を『美味しく楽しく』する為の本をチョイスする為には、それなりの事前検討や準備が必要なのだよ。」

Ebata: “In order to makes a meal fun and delicious, I have to prepare for research and direction of books."
