先日、鹿児島の嫁さんの実家にホームセキュリティシステム(以下、鹿児島システムという)の設営をしてきた、という話をしました。

The other day, I wrote that I had been to my wife's country house in Kagoshima prefecture to install the home security system (presented by me).

実際に鹿児島に飛ぶ前に、鹿児島システムを自宅で組み立ててみて、その稼動確認を実施しました。

Before flying to Kagoshima, I have installed "The Kagoshima system" in my house, and tried to check the system beforehand.

『完璧な事前準備をして、なおかつ、本番で動いてくれない ―― それがシステム』

"It is system that cannot run in the field, in spite of prefect preparation."

ということを、私は、本当に嫌になるほど体験してきたのです。

I have experimented a lot of the above case for my engineer life.

今回、この検証作業の為に、江端家のホームセキュリティシステム(以下、江端家システム)も、機能全開にして運用を開始しました。

On the other hand, I started the Ebata's Home security system, too with fully functions,

鹿児島システムとの性能差を確認する為です。

in order to check the difference between "Kagoshima System" and "The Ebata's System".

そんな訳で、3年間近くも屋外で放置されていた、ある監視デバイスの再起動を試みました。

I tried to restart a monitoring device, left alone outdoor nearly three years.

当然に動かないだろうと思って、ネットワークからも切り離していました。

I have disconnected the device from the network, because I thought it doesn't work well naturally.

ところが、ネットワークを接続すると、デバイスの赤色LEDが点滅を開始し、稼動完了を示すグリーンに変ったので、私はびっくりしました。

However, when I connected it to a host computer with the network, the red LED started blinking and changed green soon, that meant "reboot completion", so I was really surprised to watch it.

ホストコンピュータで、江端家システムの接続状況を確認したら、普段、見たこともない、デバイスを一つ見つけました。

When I checked the system status from the host computer, I could find a device not to see usually.

そして、そのデバイスに向けて、制御命令のコマンドを発行したら、

I sent a control message to the device,

―― 応答してきた

The device answered.

正確に、規則正しく、3年前と全く変わらず。

Accurately, regularly, same as three years ago.
