子どもの生存環境を比較する指標の一つとして「5歳未満の死亡率」というものがあります。
ユニセフをはじめとして、各国で使用されているもので、1000人中の死亡人数です。
今回、コラムを執筆するにあたり、日本における「5歳未満の死亡率」のデータ計算を行い、さらにユニセフの年次発表等で裏をとっていました。
日本は、現在、3人/1000人（小数点以下四捨五入）で、死亡率の低さでは、世界有数のトップレベルの国です。
ただ、私が今回知りたかったのは、100年前の人数でした。
厚生労働省やらを調べても、該当データがみつからず、欧州のデータや、新聞記事や、個人のホームページをベースに大体の値を推算していました。
現在、最悪なのが「シエラレオネ」で、実に194人。3桁の最後の方に、アフガニスタンで101人。
アフガニスタンは、私が新婚旅行先としてオファーし、嫁さんに敗北した事件として、よく覚えています。
イスラム原理主義のタリバンの阿呆どもに、石窟大仏を破壊されたとき、大人げなくも嫁さんに「恨みごと」を言ったことを覚えています。
それはさておき。

10人のうち、ざっくり2人が、5歳の誕生日を迎えることなく「いなくなる」という日常って、どういう感じなんだろう、と ―― ユニセフの統計データを読みながら考えこんでしまいました。
シエラレオネに、ベビーカーの子どもと母親が登場する「公園デビュー」なる概念があるとは思えませんが、突然子どもが消えるという日常とは、どういう気持ちなのだろうか、と。
しかし、100年前の日本は、私が計算した限り、今のシエラレオネよりもっと多くの子どもが死んでいた。
100年前とは、1913年です。
果てしなく、昔のように感じるかもしれませんが、現在上映中のジブリの映画「風たちぬ」が主人公、堀越二郎が10歳の時のことです。
鉄道も水道も整備されいて、社会インフラの形態は、現在と基本的には同程度の時代です。
その当時、10人中3人の子どもが、突然消えてしまうという日常があったことに、戦慄を感じます。
「大人になること」が、一つの奇跡であった。
「七五三」は、魔の時である5年間を経過し、そして、「成人式」とは、文字通り「よくぞここまで生き残った」という、本当の祝賀の宴だっただろうと思うのです。

「ビッグデータ」という言葉が私は嫌いです。でも、データを読むことは好きですし、大切なことだとも思うのです。
データを読むだけでも「生きていることの奇跡」に感謝できる。
データ解析の本質の一つには、そういうことがあると私は思うのです。
私、インド映画は、まだ一度も通しで見たことがないのにもかかわらず、

それ以上に、「ぼっち」であることは、社会との関係性を否定する/されることですから、一種の異常な状態であるとも言えるでしょう。

つまり、そういう異常な状態を、「どーでもいい」という考えられる、メンタルの強さ ―― というか、「壊れれた心」なくして、「ぼっち至上主義」を実践するのは、危険ですらある言えます。
But for a mental toughness (or a broken mind), that make us feel "what's matter?", the activity of "loneliness fundermentalist" would become danger.
