これはコロラドに住んでいた時の話です。

デパートの階段の前で、嫁さんが、まだベビーカーに乗っていた当時二歳の娘をベビーカーから抱きかかえて、階段を上がろうとしていた時のことです。

はるか遠くから、全力疾走で走ってくるアメリカ人の男性二人。

娘の入ったベビーカーをガシっと掴むや否や、どどどどどーーとベピーカごと、娘を階段の上に運んでしまい、嫁さんが礼を言うまえに、ぱぱっと走って消えていってしまったそうです。

この話を聞いたとき、私は感動で背筋が震えたのを覚えています。

「『かっこいい』とは、こういうことだな」と、嫁さんと二人で頷きあっていました。

米国の生活の中で、ちょっと日本では味わえないような、(言い方は良くないのですが)数多くの「暴力的な好意」に出会いました。

しかし、、、、

私が分からんのは、このような親切の塊でできているような(と私には見えることが多い)多くの米国人を代表する政府が、頼みもしないのに、他の国に出かけてまで戦争なんぞをしに行くのだろう、ということなのです。

もの凄い違和感を感じます。

私の出会ったいわゆる米国の人は、自国の戦争方針に凄い嫌悪感を持っており、大統領の政策を批判して憚らない方が多かったようです。

例えば『ブッシュの中東政策は間抜けだ』というような意見です。

確かに、私も、政府の政策が、我々の意図と同一と思われたらかなわんと思うようなことが沢山あります。

「国家の人格」と「国民の人格」は完全に独立である、と考えないと、我々は大切なものを「国際的」に失なってしまうかもしれません。

三国志については、ゲーマーでうっとうしい奴のことが思い出されて、今後もあまり嵌るこ とはないだろうと思っています。

映画の「レッドクリフ」も、それほどには、面白いとは思いませんでした。

ま、私には、吉川英治先生と、酒見賢一さんの本で十分です。

ただ、酒見賢一さんの「泣き虫 弱虫 諸葛孔明」の中に、発明家が出てくるので、『おや？』と思ったことを覚えています。

諸葛亮の妻、黄夫人は、木製ロボットを自作して、そのロボットにウドンを作らせた、という逸話があります。

事実なら、HONDAのアシモより凄い。

「孔明のヨメ。」 という4コママンガを、Amazonの中古本で購入したのですが、これが、なかなか面白い。

発明の父が「エジソン」であるなら、発明の母は「月英」と言えるでしょうか。ただ、この「孔明のヨメ。」を読むと、「発明の母」というよりは、「実用新案の母」という感じもしますが。

いわゆる、ゆるキャラ系三国志として、お勧めです。

嫁さん：「点滅続けているけど、ほっといていいの？」

Wife:"Can I leave it alone? They are blinking now"

江端：「大丈夫」

Ebata:"No problem"

―― 我が家の洗濯機は、最悪の状況下でも『メルトダウン』だけはしない

”At least, our washing machine does not "meltdown" at its worst.”

というか、仏式の葬儀で展開される説法の内容が、この年齢に至って、なお私には理解できていません。

Honestly, I cannot understand the contents of Buddhist scriptures, even I was enough old.

私の仏教の教えの骨格は、特許明細書風に記載すれば、こんな感じです。

(4)上記(1)～(3)を纏めると、『人間は、苦しむ為に生きている』ことになる。

『この技術さえ取得すれば、後の人生は安泰だぜ』

"If I acquire this technology, my life will be safe later".

といえる技術は何か ―― ということを考え続けています。

I continue to think about what the technology is.

エンジニアは「技術」を持っているだけで『勝ち組』のように言われることがあります。

An engineer sometimes seems to be a "winner" just by having "technology".

実際に何度かそういうことがありました。

I have faced the scenes several times actually.

もちろんエンジニアである私は、「そんなことあるわけないだろう」と思っています。

Of course, as an engineer, I think, "it is a nonsense".

その一方で、世間の人からは「そう見えるかもしれないなぁ」とも思うこともあります。

On the other hand, it cannot be helped that people may think that.

技術とは、一言で言えば「物事を解決する方法」ですが、この概念は広過ぎます。

Technology in a nutshell is "how to solve things", but this concept is too broad.

特許法の考え方を援用すれば、「エンジニアの技術」とは、(1)課題、(2)解決手段、(3)作用効果が明確でであり、さらには、(4)反復可能性、(5)実施可能性、(6)客観性を有していること、となります。

Using the idea of patent law, "engineer technology" means that (1) problems, (2)means of solution, (3)operational effects are clear, and (4)repeatability, ( 5)possibility of implementation, (6)having objectivity are needed.

ぶっちゃけて言えば、「第三者に伝承ができるもの」、であって、「金になるもの(価値があるもの)」と言い切ってもいいでしょう。

In short, it can be said that it is something that can be handed down to a third party, and that it can change money (something that is valuable).

しかし、このような「エンジニアの技術」は、「第三者に伝承ができるもの」であるが故に、「価値の暴落する速度が速い」のです。

今日は、母の施術の立ち会いの為に、会社を休んで、病院に行ってきました。

Today, I took a day off from work to go to the hospital to witness my mother's treatment.

フェイスシールドを準備しての万端の体制だったのですが、病院では、看護師さんもフェースシールドをしていませんでした。

I was all set up with a face shield at the ready, but at the hospital, the nurses didn't have a face shield either.

悪目立ちするのも何なので、今回は、フェースシールドを使うのはやめました。

I didn't want to stand out, so I decided not to use the face shield this time.

それはさておき。

昨日お話しましたが、体中の筋肉痛がハンパなく酷いので、実家の方のスーパー銭湯にいって、サウナ3セットをやってきました。

As I told you yesterday, I went to the super public bath at my parents' house and did three sets of sauna sessions because the muscle pain in my body was so bad.

サウナの中で流れているテレビ番組を ―― 苦痛を感じながら聞いていました。

I listened to the TV show playing in the sauna -- painfully.

著名な女優さんが自殺するのは痛ましいし、元アイドルグループのメンバが、飲酒運転の上に事故を起こすのは非難されてしかるべきです。

It's tragic to see a famous actress kill herself and a former member of an idol group should be blamed for causing an accident on top of a drunk driver.

―― しかし、大人が数人も集って、何十分も語るようなネタか？

"However, is this the kind of story that a few adults can get together and talk about for 20 minutes?"

うん、そういうネタなんだろう。

I thought "Yes, it is".

そういうネタだから、真っ昼間から放送されている訳です。

That's why it's being broadcast from daytime.

それだけのリソースを投入するなら、ソリューション(解決法)の議論でもすればいいのに ―― と思ってしまうのは、私がエンジニアだからかもしれません。

I thought "If they want to invest that much resources, they can discuss the solution", however, it may be because I am an engineer.

と思うのですが、サウナ利用者としては、ボーッとするよりは、テレビが流れていた方が気が紛れるということもあるのかもしれません。

先日、制御用デバイスを、個人的に、長期に渡って(3年間以上)貸与して頂いていた会社の社長さんから、

というメールが来ました。

私、これまでも品番の問い合わせなどのタイミングで、度々返却を申し出ていたので、ちょっとビックリしました。

その日のうちに、江端家のシステムの一部を解体して、お借りしていた全品を返却しました。

Later that day, I dismantled part of the Ebata family's system and returned all the devices I had borrowed.

まあ、ジャンク屋で拾った機器がまだいくつか残っているので、あまり心配はしていません。

こんな日記をリリースしたら、担当のMさんに殴られないまでも、イヤミの一つくらいは言われるかもしれない、とも思いましたが ――

でも、『叱られたら、叱られたで、また日記が書けるな』と思いましたので、リリースしちゃいます。

これは、日経XXのポータルサイトに多いのですが、この登録後に必要となるアンケートシートに「うんざり」するからです。

This cases are apt to happen on Nikkei-XXX site. This is because I am "fed up" with the survey sheets that are required after this registration.

年収とか、家族構成とか、職位とか、既婚や未婚など ―― これらのプライバシーを書かされる『不快』さを、日経XXのサイト運営者は理解すべきです。

The Nikkei XX website operators should understand the "discomfort" of being asked to write these privacy details -- income, family structure, job title, marital status, unmarried status, etc.

原則、私は10項目以上あるアンケートには、答えないことにしています。面倒くさいからです。

As a general rule, I do not answer surveys that have more than 10 items. It is because it is too much trouble.

先日、筋トレを目的としたスポーツジムの見学に行ってきたのですが、その前に記載されるアンケート用紙(両面ビッシリと、細かい文字で記載されている)を見た瞬間、

で、多分、多くの施設やポータルサイトは、ユーザの『不快』や『面倒』で、私のような潜在顧客を見逃しているハズです。

And maybe many facilities and portals are missing out on potential customers like me because of the 'discomfort' and 'hassle' of users.

それに気がついていないなら「バカだなぁ」と思うし、

If they don't realize that, I think that they are "stupid."

それに気がついているなら、「救い難いバカだなぁ」と思います。
